Our Mandate
The NSG delivers quality education, training and development interventions that are relevant to the needs of the public sector. Our ETD interventions target: Cadet and Foundational Development, Middle Management Development, Senior Management and Professional Development; and Executive Management & Leadership Development offering programmes in Leadership, Administration, Management and Induction. These four areas are carefully selected to respond to the needs of leadership, managers and to induct new entrants and prospective entrants into the public service. The NSG also works with the African Management Development Institutes’ Network (AMDIN) to build and promote democratic governance and developmental public administration on the African continent. AMDIN comprises all Management Development Institutes whose countries are member states of the African Union. In keeping with South Africa’s foreign policy, the NSG also participates in global knowledge exchange networks with partners in the global north and global south in advancement of democratic governance and developmental public administration.
The NSG uses a hybrid model of training that employs the use of in-house trainers as well as contracted parties such as higher education institutions and former senior public servants and leadership. The NSG is required to collaborate with various partners in the public and private sector to ensure that its ETD interventions are of high quality, relevant and reaches all public servants at the right time and place. The NSG advances ETD in partnership with HEIs and other Management Development Institutes in South Africa, Africa and around the world harnessing technical expertise and experiences from different countries in a globalised world with a common future. Our interventions involve classroom based learning, practice based learning, seminars, student exchanges and dialogue with actors in the public and private sector. Our work is also enabled by various development partners who have and continue to generously support the work of the NSG.
