Job Description

Minimum Requirements: Grade 12 + recognised Trade certificate in plumbing work 5 years’ experience post apprenticeship 2 years proven leadership skills Valid drivers’ license code EB Proven computer literacy Ability to perform emergency and standby duties Good communication skills, verbal and written Good knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations Ability to work under pressure with adherence to deadlines Knowledge of the functioning of Higher Education institutions would be advantageous Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas: The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is a vibrant, diverse and dynamic university, rooted in the African continent with an increasing global reach. The Infrastructure and Engineering Department seeks to employ a qualified, skilled, knowledgeable and resourceful individual to ensure the maintenance of PLUMBING and related components within the university infrastructure. The primary responsibilities of this post include day to day maintenance, repairs, and improvements to ensure the optimal performance and full regulatory compliance of all installations. Reporting to the Foreman , the key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responding to service requests for plumbing repairs and maintenance Work and resource planning Guiding and mentoring assistants Sourcing of materials Providing progress reports to the Foreman: Plumbing Updating Job Card data on the Onkey 5 Maintenance Management System Liaising with internal sections and other stakeholders as required Obtaining quotations for parts, materials and services Following up on outstanding orders & documents Organising and monitoring resources (internal and outsourced) Ensuring adherence to quality and regulatory standards Ensuring adherence to safety standards and legislation.
