Main Purpose: The Data Centre Technician, works as part of the team assisting with the maintenance of Data Centres on the technical, operational, monitoring, and reporting aspects of the Network and the integrity and protection of the network infrastructure, related systems and services to ensures high availability, reliability optimal performance to ensure the University achieves its strategic, teaching, research and service goals. Key Responsibilities: · Installation and decommissioning of machinery in the Data Centre including servers. · Patching of cabling (copper and fiber) · Management of third-party vendors in the data Centre. · Logging of calls to support vendors for hardware or software errors. · Printing of certificates, letters, reports, registration forms and academic transcripts. · Scanning of the MCQ cards and uploading. · Responsible for all environmental factors within data centres and server/network rooms, including but not limited to access. · Provide and follow up on quotations between the users and cabling contractors. · Scheduling and arranging UPS/Cooling Units/ Fire suppression maintenance with vendors. · Report on availability and other statistics for the cabling infrastructure and related services. · Works within the team on projects as well as the full range of technical considerations involved. · Works according to work procedures and schedules and keeps track of the daily work including service desk calls. · Escalate logs and errors from monitoring systems · 24/7 standby for emergency incidents. Requirements: · Qualifications: Matric; and A+ certification or equivalent. · Experience Two years in ICT environment, including data centre environment. · Good written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail and accuracy Initiative. Listening and Collaboration Skills · Willing to work afterhours.
