Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teaching-learning: To facilitate teaching and learning of modules in Computer Applications Technology education, Information Technology education and computer literacy in distance and contact mode. This includes all aspects involved in teaching and learning such as facilitating classes in online and distance mode, managing the LMS, curriculum development, the development of study guides, compiling assessments, marking of assessments and participating in work integrated learning. 2. Research in Computer Science Education (furthering of own studies). 3. Be involved in or initiate community engagement projects. Minimum requirements : Relevant Honours degree (Computer Science or Computer Science education, that relates to Computer Applications Technology or Information Technology). Applicable teaching qualification (Computer Science Education that relates to Computer Applications Technology education or Information Technology education). 1 year teaching experience relevant to CAT and/or IT education (Computer Applications Technology or Information Technology in the FET phase or relevant teaching experience in Higher Education). KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES: Excellent knowledge and skills in applying active teaching and learning strategies to facilitate teaching and learning in CAT/IT. Excellent planning skills. The ability to function in an online environment and excellent skills in using the Internet, e-mail. Excellent skills in the use of application software such as Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. Sound knowledge of system technologies, computer networks, databases and HTML. Knowledge of programming concepts is desirable. Excellent communication skills with all stakeholders in the higher education environment. Participate in research on Computer Science Education and be a lifelong learner. KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES: The ability to maintain professional relationships with faculty, students, academics and support staff. The ability to collaboratively work in a multi-cultural environment and contribute towards the vision of the NWU, Faculty and the subject group. Be a creative problem-solver and lifelong learner who is resilient and adaptable. To work autonomously under pressure. Strive for excellence and committed to NWU values as indicated below.
