    A vacancy exists for a pollinator and invertebrate knowledge collation scientist in the Scientific Services division of South African National Parks (SANParks). The successful candidate will locate, review and synthesise existing literature (peer-reviewed and grey) and ongoing research (by SANParks and external researchers) across all parks to produce â State of Knowledge reports for (i) pollinators, and (ii) invertebrates. Salary Scale: Patterson D3 band This two-year contract position will be based in Skukuza in Kruger National Park.

Job Description

Requirements: At least an MSc in Natural Science Three years of post-graduate working experience in an ecological field and/or bioinformatics-related field. Proven record of accomplishment of scientific writing, including first author peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, scientific assessments and reports. Wide-ranging knowledge and experience working with pollinators and other invertebrates. Data analysis and interpretation skills. Proven experience of successfully leading the writing of scientific reviews and reports. Good networking skills. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Excellent project management and organisational skills. A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to national parks across the country. Responsibilities: Planning report content through end-user consultation. Identify, collate and review knowledge relevant to pollinators and invertebrates in SANParks. Identify, review and analyse (if needed) SANParks’ datasets. Identify, review and analyse (if needed) data from registered external researchers and open access repositories. Draft, consult and finalise reports. Prepare and present summaries for decision-makers.
