Job Description

Department Description The Faculty of Health Sciences has a high-fidelity simulation laboratory to enhance clinical skill development and inter-professional education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The laboratory services degrees across the professional spectrum in the health sciences and is also a training site for developing staff capacity in the theory and practice of simulation pedagogy. We seek to appoint an academic with clinical skills and experience in health science education to manage the laboratory. The post is based in the Centre for Health Science Education. Brief Description Requirements: 1. A professional qualification in one of the health science professions; 2. A higher degree in one of the health science professions will be an advantage. 3. Registration with the relevant health professions council 4. Experience in health science education and in teaching clinical skills 5. A proven interest in simulation teaching 6. Sufficient technological skill to operate and maintain and advise on hi-fidelity equipment 7. The ability to collaborate, communicate and liaise with diverse people in the workplace 8. The ability to manage equipment, stores and maintain the laboratory. Responsibilities The incumbent is expected to: 1. Review the set-up of the laboratory and contribute to further plans to extend structural capacity and pedagogical innovation. 2. Collaborate with co-ordinators of all the health science programmes to develop curricula for skills development; 3. Prepare and maintain simulation laboratory equipment and supplies; 4. Ensure equipment and supplies are available for simulation experiences; 5. Recommend simulation purchases to the Faculty; 6. Collaborate with IT specialists; 7. Keep abreast of current literature and issues relevant to simulation; 8. Supervise and teach staff and students as assigned. 9. Participate in CHSE meetings and projects as required. 10. Perform other jobs related duties as assigned by the supervisor. 11. Provide instruction and orientation to the simulation laboratory in the use and care of equipment and safety procedures; 12. Maintain an inventory to support learning; 13. Serve as a driver and liaison with other groups in the Faculty to promote interprofessional teaching and learning;
