FACULTY OF VETERINARY SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN PHYSIOLOGY (ONE POST) In pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the following vacancy. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas: Teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students in Physiology; Postgraduate training and supervision where appropriate; Research and publication in scientific journals; Community engagement participation and supporting student activities; Administrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of Department; and Academic self-development. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Lecturer: A BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification; A Masters or equivalent postgraduate degree at the time of appointment or immediate registration for an MSc to be completed within two years of appointment; Registration (or registrable) with the SAVC as a Veterinarian; Two years experience post CCS year in 2022; and Evidence of continued professional development or continued education development. Senior Lecturer: A BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification; MSc degree with particular focus on physiology; Registration (or registrable) with the SAVC as a Veterinarian; Two years experience post CCS year in 2022; and At least five full peer reviewed papers in accredited scientific journals as senior or co-author. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES): Proven knowledge and competence in physiology; Research interest appropriate to the position; Candidates without a PhD: Commitment to obtain a PhD in reasonable time; Good language and communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills; and Generic teaching competence including proficiency with presentation, word-processing and spreadsheet software. ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES: Tertiary teaching and mentoring experience; Involvement in research in an appropriate field. The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbents level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
