Job Description

REQUIREMENTS: Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a 106 Medical Technologist. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist. Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist in respect of South African qualified employees. 1-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in the relevant profession (where applicable) in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist in respect of South African qualified employees. A minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in the relevant profession (where applicable) in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist in respect of South African qualified employees. A minimum of 21 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA in the relevant profession (where applicable) in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Dedication to reliable, high quality work. Basic computer skills and be able to work independently following the guidelines and standards of good clinical laboratory practice. Good understanding of quality assurance standards and accreditation processes. DUTIES: The render of a support service to the medical staff by performing diagnostic laboratory tests in a Clinical Pharmacology and bio-analytical therapeutic drug monitoring laboratory. Administrative tasks, calibration and preventive maintenance of equipment as required by protocol. Utilise a QA system to ensure analytical results of a high standard. Involvement and willingness to perform after-hour duties in the Clinical Pharmacology Laboratory as required per roster.
