Job Description

About the job: The CSIR has a vacancy for a Principal Software Developer within the e-Government Impact Area of the Next Generation Enterprises and Institutions Cluster. The incumbent will develop software and information systems, with a focus on Digital Government solutions that support and improve service delivery. This position is based in Pretoria. For more information about the cluster https://www.csir.co.za/nextgen-enterprises-and-institutions Key responsibilities: Coordinate across disciplines with researchers and experts to conceptualise and develop high-technology software solutions for clients; Lead an agile team of software developers/engineers doing front-end, back-end and full stack development and delivering working software solutions; Lead and integrate the team’s technical work on large and complex projects, using cutting-edge technology and innovative designs; Conduct high-level design and integration of systems and lead the development that translates those design into working systems; and Contribute to the technology research of the group by producing and publishing research outputs, such as scientific conference papers and journal articles, in selected topics of interest. Qualifications, skills and experience: A Master’s degree in computer science, electronic/computer engineering, information technology or related field, with at least six years’ experience in professional software development and engineering, particularly on large, complex projects. Experience with the following would be advantageous: Devops, automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery; Docker; Kubernetes Microservices; Open source software; Information security; Digital government, Health informatics and eHealth systems; Interoperability and system integration; Research and publication of scientific articles; Mobile web and app development; Systems integration and interoperability; Data management and analysis; Relational databases, SQL and related technologies; NoSQL databases; and Any other programming languages. Knowledge of and experience in the following are required: Modern web technologies, including HTML5, JavaScript, AngularJS/ReactJS; node.js, Enterprise Java and/or Python; Software development/engineering; Test-driven development; Agile; Specialist front-end or back-end development. Full stack development. System and web application architectures and design. Applicants must be South African citizens. All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
