Post Description The Academy of Computer Science and Software Engineering has a long-standing reputation for excellence in tertiary education and has an established record with research in the fields of computer science / information technology with a preference to work done in the fields of artificial intelligence and/or cyber security. Apart from presenting lectures and supervising senior undergraduate projects within in the Academy, the appointee will be expected to conduct research, postgraduate supervision and publication, and to be actively involved in the other activities in the Academy. Responsibilities include: Lead existing or new research groups. Secure and manage internal and external research funds. Teaching in Academy of Computer Science and Software Engineering subjects (undergraduate and Honours level). Administrative duties as required by the HOD. Supervise third year projects Participate in Projects Day organization Participate in evidence collection activities relating to accreditation bodies such as the BCS / ECSA. Conduct research and supervise postgraduate students (Honours, Masters, and Doctoral). Network with industry and research institutions. Community service and advancing of the discipline. Minimum requirements Professor Requirements: A Doctoral Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology preferably in the following fields: O Cyber Security / Artificial Intelligence Having a proven track record of international, peer-reviewed, accredited published research outputs exceeding 2 Department of Higher Education and Training research publication units annually in the above field over at least 5 years. The successful applicant must have a proven track record as main supervisor of PhD degrees supervised to completion. The successful applicant must have a proven track record as main supervisor of Master’s degrees supervised to completion. The successful applicant must have an excellent academic record in both Teaching and Learning as well as Research. Must have successfully contributed to projects days (within the Academy the Annual Projects Day is a showcase of senior student practical software development projects – approximately 60 projects annually). Must have a record of successfully offering undergraduate modules over a wide range of the body of knowledge pertinent in the field of discourse. Must have successfully mentored and assessed the marking of third year practical year projects on a level acceptable to the British Computer Society. Must have experience of the BCS accreditation process. Must pass a practical programming assessment as determined by the Academy of Computer Science and Software Engineering. NRF rating highly desirable (or of an equivalent internationally accepted standing covering the same criteria as the NRF system). Competencies and Behavioural Attributes: The proven ability to teach both Computer Science and Informatics courses and in particular VB.Net, advanced data structures on an undergraduate level.
