Job Description

Key responsibilities include the following: · Provides financial and business input to the formulation of the Services strategic and operational plans in conjunction with other role players in Services · Participates in developing, along with other stakeholders, alternative revenue streams for Services. This entails identifying opportunities, developing and performing financial scenario analyses to achieve pre-defined goals · Co-ordinates the annual compilation of the total Services’ budgets including Insourcing Budgets and the monitoring of the managements accounts (multiple cost centres) and its related functions for revenue and expenditure (operational and capital expenditure) and the personnel budgets to meet Services’ strategic and operational objectives · Monitors Services / Insourcing actual financial performance against budget, including variance analysis, and initiates remedial actions where appropriate with the Business Manager concerned. In more serious cases would alert the Business Manager and make suggestions as to what action should be taken · Participates in the University financial and accounting policy decision-making process and implementation thereof. This involves formulating management reports · Review monthly reconciliations and facilitate the necessary corrections and monthly submission to Central Finance. Assists in ensuring that the principles of GAAP and IFRS accounting are maintained within Services · Monthly preparation and submission of management reports complete with variance reporting · Oversees the recording of income and expenditure that involves maintaining an effective system of internal financial controls and procedures according to the financial controls and procedure of the University · Follows up on implementation of recommendations in both internal and external audit reports · Manage Services debtors’ book which includes the facilitation of outstanding debt recovery, receipts application, monthly reporting via approved dashboard · Manages the KPAs and KPIs of direct subordinates in own department, if applicable · Identify financial reporting needs of the various users within Services Department and facilitate the design and development thereof. Requirements: · Matric · Recognized Finance/Accounting Qualification. Licenses: · Valid Driver’s License. Required years of related experience: · 8 – 10 years working Experience Experience supervising staff advantageous. Technical Competencies · Finance and Management Reporting · Budgets · Forecast · Human Resources · Performance Management · Income Statements, Balance Sheets & General Ledger Knowledge and exposure · Reconciliation Knowledge and exposure · Stock – taking knowledge and exposure · AP & AR Age analysis · MS Office · Knowledge of Financial System (Oracle will be an advantage) · Compliance to legislation and University policies & Procedures). Competencies (Knowledge, skills and behavior) · Planning and Organising · Deadline Driven · Problem Solving Skills · Accuracy · Attention to detail · Communication Skills · Knowledge of the University systems ( Oracle ,Wand) would be advantageous , but not essential. · Understanding basic accounting terminology, principles, and processes.
