Job Description

Key responsibilities: Carry out planned mechanical maintenance and repairs to CSIR plant and equipment including pumps, hydraulic equipment, fire and lifting equipment; Carry out maintenance and testing on statutory equipment (Air compressors, boilers, pressure vessels and lifting equipment) and ensure compliance at all times; Carry out complex repairs, modifications and installation work on mechanical plant and equipment using technical equipment and hand tools; Ensure all new installations and repairs are performed in accordance with SANS standards and codes regulatory requirements; Use technical skills to diagnose faults on plant and equipment to determine the faults and carry out repairs required under minimal supervision; Conduct root cause analysis on mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment; Assist units with maintenance and repairs on equipment and ensuring it complies to statutory requirements; Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the OHS act and bylaws; Ensure all equipment within your area of responsibility is uploaded onto the Computerised Maintenance Management System with up to date maintenance tasks; Carry out other technical duties within the mechanical section as may be assigned by the Mechanical Supervisor Qualifications, skills and experience: An N4 Certificate with at least six years’ post trade experience; Mechanical Fitter and Turner Trade Test Certificate; Valid drivers licence Extensive hands on experience in fabrication, machining welding and rigging and a working knowledge of mechanical building services and the maintenance thereof; Sound knowledge of maintenance of mechanical equipment; Maintenance and repair knowledge of Boilers, Cranes, Air compressors and Mechanical lifting equipment; Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and to carry out fabrications from drawings; Experience in EHS and statutory compliance in a workshop environment.
