Job Description

Duties and responsibilities:

• Engage in research supervision of postgraduate students at masters and doctoral levels.
• Conduct and publish interdisciplinary research concerning current and relevant aspects of environmental management.
• Generate funds for research projects.
• Contribute to postgraduate programmes through teaching and curriculum design.
• Oversee the development of a new postgraduate qualification in environmental management or closely related discipline.
• Engage in knowledge exchange and cooperation with academic institutions within the continent and internationally.
• Actively promote engagement with stakeholders in the local community.
• Assist in providing service to the faculty and the institution through committee work and related.

Inherent requirements:

Senior Lecturer: 
• A PhD on NQF level 10 in Environmental Management.
• Proven experience in post-graduate teaching, supervision or mentorship.
• Proven experience in the presentation of papers / posters at national scholarly conferences.
• Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
• An NRF rating of Y2 or higher, or the demonstrable ability to obtain an equivalent rating within 12 months.
• Proven experience in the supervision of graduated masters’ students.
• A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
• Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
• Serve as a member of an international scholarly society or an equivalent international committee of agency.


• Demonstrate leadership experience.
• Organizational and administrative skills to manage university processes for postgraduate teaching,
research and student supervision.
• Experience as an invited peer-reviewer for national or international journals.
• Experience as external examiner for masters’ students.
• Proven ability to manage a research programme and obtain research funding from national sources.
• Experience in academic administration at departmental and/or programme level.
• Ability to innovate in teaching and research.
• Public intellectual profile.
