Job Description

Minimum requirements: An accredited Master’s Degree in Social Work. Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP/ Council) as a Social Worker Personal indemnity insurance. Competencies and Behavioural Attributes: Professional Social Work skills. Excellent oral and written communication, consultation and facilitation skills. Interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team. Proficiency in using a PC, Microsoft Office programs, and the Internet. A sound understanding of professional and ethical principles and relevant legislation. Recommendations: Experience of student counselling. Experience in the facilitation of psycho-educational development workshops. Flexibility to work on a rotational basis between campuses in order to meet students’ needs. Sound theoretical foundation. Experience in the use of a number of counselling modalities. Knowledge of web based/ online platforms or a willingness to learn. Responsibilities: Provide protection, support and assistance to individuals and families who are vulnerable, in need or are enduring a crises Liaise with internal and external stakeholders with regards to funding of studies Liaise with internal and external stakeholders with regards to student accommodation Coordinate outreach programs to sponsor students with basic life amenities Case work which would include following up with students who have been discharged from hospitals. The case worker will be expected to develop one-to-one relationships with individuals, visiting them to give personal assistance and encouragement. Liaise with the Gender Equity Office in order to supported to students who have been exposed to GBV Initiate and coordinate awareness programs and workshops that are related to social issues such as GBV, Xenophobia, etc. Liaise with the Department of Social Work to set up and manage practical placements for UJ Social Work students Liaise with residence managers in order to identify and support students
