The Market Theatre Foundation in partnership with Yes4Youth have the opportunity to offer currently unemployed young people from previously disadvantaged communities, the opportunity to re-join the workforce through a sponsored internship programme.


Applications for internships at the Market Theatre Foundation in Johannesburg are being sought. The successful applicants will have a 12-month fixed term contract at R5000 p.m. They will benefit from being associated with and gaining hands on experience at the world-renowned cultural institution.

Requirements

  • 21 – 35 years
  • 12 months fixed term contract: 1 February 2022 – 31 January 2023

  • Proof of Yes Youth registration – Screen shot will suffice
  • Certificated copy of ID and Affidavit stating that the applicant is currently unemployed prior to commencing the programme

Stage Manager X2 (Ref: 2021/11/SM)

  • Degree/Diploma Performing Arts, relevant Theatre Qualifications
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team of people in a very stressful environment
  • Able to work under pressure

General Admin Assistant (Ref: 2021/11/GAA)

  • Diploma in Office Admin or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Administrative and clerical procedures
  • Knowledge of computers and relevant software application
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
  • People and communication skills
  • Ability to operate a switchboard

 Sound Technician (Ref: 2021/11/SD)

  • Degree/Diploma in sound technology/engineering, performing arts
  • This position will suit a sound engineering graduate or a person with previous sound experience
  • Programming cues with a mixing console for a shows or events
  • Operating analogue or digital mixing consoles for shows and events

Producing Administrator (Ref: 2021/11/PA)

  • Degree/Ndip in Office Administration or equivalent or arts related qualification
  • Applicants will assist Producer and Assistant Producer with the administration of quotations and contracts
  • Computer literate
  • Basic accounting, communication, and project management skills
  • Assist Production department with the drafting and maintenance of schedules

Social Media (Ref: 2021/11/COM)

  • A relevant degree/diploma in Marketing, Brand Communications, Media studies
  • Basic knowledge of campaign management from conceptualisation to execution
  • Awareness of the nature and role of theatre and entertainment industries
  • Hands on experience with social media monitoring
  • Ability to interpret social media traffic, impressions, target, and audience
  • Knowledge of online marketing

Publicity (Ref: 2021/11/PU)

  • Degree/Ndip in public relations, communications/ media studies
  • An understanding of marketing, social media, graphic design, theatre, and copywriting
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Basic administrative skills, computer literacy

 Audience & Marketing Development Assistant (Ref: 2021/11/AD)

  • A Marketing Degree or equivalent qualification is essential for this internship
  • Minimum 1 year sales experience would be advantageous
  • Good communication skills
  • Target driven
  • Ability to cope with rejection
  • Ability to remain calm in fast-paced environments
  • Structured individual, with good time management

Graphic Designer (Ref: 2021/11/GD)

  • Degree in Fine/Visual Arts, Communications, Media, or a related field
  • Knowledge of layouts, typography, line composition, colour, and other graphic design fundamentals
  • Excellent computer skills, preferably MAC
  • Experience with InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Creative Suite, and knowledge of video editing software
  • Strong creative and analytical skills
  • Compelling portfolio of graphic design work

 Research and Archiving X2 (Ref: 2021/11/RA)

  • Tertiary qualification in Humanities (qualification in Photography, visual and heritage archives will be advantageous)
  • Computer skills (Mac and PC, Excel and Word, E-mail)
  • Be driven and passionate about photography and the importance of archives for South Africa’s future
  • Be able to work under pressure, unsupervised and show strong initiative
  • Show a critical awareness of the nature and role of photography, archives in general, and of the education and development landscape for African practitioners
  • Background and understanding of Arts, Culture and Heritage-related industries will be advantageous

 Projects Assistant (Ref: 2021/11/PA)

  • Tertiary qualification in Humanities (qualification in Photography, visual and heritage archives will be advantageous)
  • Computer skills (Mac and PC, Excel and Word, E-mail)
  • Be driven and passionate about photography and the importance of archives for South Africa’s future

Maintenance (Ref: 2021/11/MA)

  • Grade 12 or equivalent technical qualification
  • Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing or HVAC systems
  • Basic math skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety

Human Resources (Ref: 2021/11/HR)

  • Degree/Ndip HRM, or any relevant qualification
  • Basic knowledge of South African labour laws
  • Accountable and able to handle confidential matters
  • Organized and attention to detail

Supply Chain Management Inter (Ref: 2021/11/SC)

  • Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, purchasing or relevant
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practice

  • Must be Computer Literate (MS Office)

Technical Assistant Intern (Ref: 2021/11/TA)

  • Degree/Diploma Performing Arts, relevant Theatre Qualifications
