The internship program is aimed at providing newly graduated clinical psychology students with practical exposure to different psychiatric environments, including ward work, outpatient assessments, psychometric assessments, and therapeutic interventions.
Key Responsibilities
As an intern at Lentegeur Hospital, you will be expected to participate in a variety of clinical psychology activities, including but not limited to:
- Psychological Treatment and Assessment: Conducting in-depth clinical assessments and offering psychological treatments for patients with various psychiatric conditions, including intellectual disabilities, medical wards, and forensic services.
- Community Outreach: Engaging in outreach and support for district and community health clinics, ensuring that psychological services are accessible to underserved populations.
- Psychometric Assessments: Administering psychometric tests, including neuropsychological, personality, and developmental evaluations, to patients in the hospital and community clinics.
- Ward Work: Working with a range of psychiatric diagnoses, ensuring that both adult and child patients receive appropriate psychological care.
- Academic Training: Participating in the academic training program alongside your clinical duties, contributing to your overall growth as a clinical psychologist.

Candidate Requirements
To be eligible for the Clinical Psychology Internship at Lentegeur Hospital, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Educational Qualifications:
- A completed Honours degree in Psychology.
- Successful completion of the theoretical part of the Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology.
- Enrollment in a Clinical Psychology MA program is recommended.
- Registration:
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical Psychology Intern by 1 January 2026.
- Skills and Competencies:

Salary and Benefits
