Requirements

This opportunity is for anyone who meets the following minimum requirements:

Qualifications Needed

  • Matric/Grade 12 Certificate
  • A three-year degree or National Diploma in one of the following:
    • B Com (Bachelor of Commerce)
    • Accounting
    • Financial Management
    • Auditing
    • Taxation
    • Or any relevant finance-related qualification

Skills Required

  • Must be computer literate, especially in Microsoft Office
  • Good with numbers and has analytical thinking
  • Can communicate well in English (both writing and speaking)
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Duties and Responsibilities

During the two years of the internship, you will be trained and exposed to different financial sections in the municipality, such as:

  • Implementing Government Finance Rules: Learn how to apply the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA), GRAP (Generally Recognized Accounting Practice), and budget rules
  • Budget and Financial Management: Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets
  • Expenditure and Procurement: Work in the supply chain and help with procurement processes
  • Revenue Collection: Learn how the municipality manages and collects money
  • Asset Management: Keep records of government-owned equipment and property
  • Communication: Learn to write reports, emails, and interact with the public or other departments
