    About the City of Johannesburg Internship Programme

    The City of Johannesburg Internship Programme is a strategic intervention aimed at providing young people in Johannesburg with the opportunity to gain practical experience in a real-world environment. This program is open to all qualifying students and recent graduates residing in Johannesburg who have never participated in an internship programme before.

    Key Features of the Internship Programme

    • Duration: The internship programme is available for a period not exceeding 18 months.
    • Eligibility: Open to all qualifying students in the Johannesburg community.
    • Objective: To provide work-based training that equips students and graduates with the necessary skills and experience to enhance their employability.
    • Focus Areas: The internships cover various departments, including Finance and Sports and Recreation, providing a diverse range of opportunities for applicants.

    Requirements

    The internship opportunities offered by the City of Johannesburg are targeted at youth from Johannesburg communities who meet the following criteria:

    • Must be a resident of the City of Johannesburg.
    • Must have never participated in an internship programme before.
    • Must meet the educational qualifications specified for the internship position.
    • Must be a student or recent graduate from a recognized tertiary institution.

    List of the City of Johannesburg Internship Opportunities

    1. Finance Internship

    The Finance Internship is offered by the Community Development Department under the Finance Branch. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for those who have completed or are currently enrolled in a finance-related qualification.

    Details of the Finance Internship:

    • Location: Metro Centre, 158 Civic Blvd., Braamfontein
    • Remuneration:
      • For students who have completed their qualification (minimum 360 credits): R9,531.54 per month (basic salary, no benefits).
      • For enrolled students: R3,500.00 per month (basic salary, no benefits).
    • Minimum Requirements:
      • Grade 12 (NQF level 4) plus a tertiary qualification in Finance or equivalent registered at NQF level 6.
      • Enrollment confirmation letter from the institution.
      • Only residents of the City of Johannesburg will be considered.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Assist in controlling key performance and result indicators within the Community Development Finance directorate.
    • Ensure accurate reporting of assets and insurance.
    • Manage Supply Chain Management and Budget and accounting compliance.
    • Support the implementation of specific procedures, systems, and controls related to Asset Management, Budgeting, and Financial reporting.

    2. Sports and Recreation Internship

    The Sports and Recreation Internship, also offered by the Community Development Department, provides a dynamic environment for those interested in sports management, event planning, and recreational activities.

    Details of the Sports and Recreation Internship:

    • Location: Metro Centre, 158 Civic Blvd., Braamfontein
    • Remuneration:
      • For students who have completed their qualification (minimum 360 credits): R9,531.54 per month (basic salary, no benefits).
