    Eskom, one of South Africa’s leading electricity suppliers, is seeking to fill an exciting role for an Engineering Assistant at the National Transmission Company of South Africa (NTCSA) in George, located in the Western Cape. The position is within the Telecommunications Department of the System Operator business unit, where the successful candidate will play a vital role in commissioning and maintaining telecommunication equipment while also supervising related projects.     This position is ideal for individuals with a technical background in telecommunication, electrical, and radio communication disciplines. The successful candidate will be responsible for the commissioning and maintenance of telecommunication equipment while ensuring the smooth operation of these systems.

    Minimum Requirements

    To apply for the Engineering Assistant Vacancy at Eskom, candidates must meet the following requirements:

    Qualifications:

    • A Trade Certificate in Electrical Engineering LC/Radiocommunication Mechanician/Radiotrician/Refrigeration Mechanic at NQF Level 4 with 120 credits.

    Experience:

    • At least 3 years of practical experience in the installation and maintenance of telecommunication cabling and terminal equipment.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Engineering Assistant will be responsible for a variety of critical tasks related to telecommunication systems. These include, but are not limited to:

    1. Installation, Commissioning, and Maintenance:
      • The primary responsibility will involve the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of telecommunication equipment. This requires technical proficiency to ensure that all systems are operational and meet performance standards.
    2. Supervision and Coordination:
      • The role will involve supervising and coordinating telecommunication resources to ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and safely. The assistant will play a key role in leading teams on-site, directing technical personnel, and making sure that all necessary materials and equipment are available.
    3. Monitoring Safety Standards:
      • As part of the telecommunications department, the Engineering Assistant will need to monitor and ensure conformance to safety, health, environmental, and quality standards. Adherence to these standards is essential for both the safety of personnel and the quality of work produced.
    4. Coaching and Mentoring:
      • In addition to technical tasks, the Engineering Assistant will be expected to coach and mentor employees within the department. This includes providing guidance to junior staff members, supporting their professional development, and helping them to gain the necessary experience to thrive in their roles.
