Requirements

  • Professional registration and qualifications, An appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Biological Scientist – Reproductive Biology/Clinical Embryology Current registration with the HPCSA in the relevant category is required.
  • Additional Knowledge: At least 1 year experience in a reproductive medicine unit Experience: Grade 1: No experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Biological Scientist (Reproductive Biology/Clinical Embryology) for South African-qualified employees.
  • One year's relevant experience after HPCSA registration for foreign-qualified employees who are not required to perform community service in South Africa.
  • Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years' relevant experience after HPCSA registration for South Africanqualified employees.
  • Minimum of 11 years' relevant experience after HPCSA registration for foreign-qualified employees who are not required to perform community service in South Africa.
  • Grade 3 Minimum of 20 years' relevant experience after HPCSA registration for South African-qualified employees.
  • Minimum of 21 years' relevant experience after HPCSA registration for foreignqualified employees who are not required to perform community service in South Africa.

Duties

  • The incumbent should be able to demonstrate the following Scientific excellence strong knowledge of reproductive biology and contemporary embryology.
  • Technical competence proficiency in ART laboratory techniques and a commitment to maintaining high technical standards.
  • Attention to detail meticulous handling, identification and documentation of reproductive material.
  • Integrity and accountability recognition of the ethical and professional responsibilities associated with handling human gametes and embryos.
  • Teaching and mentorship willingness to contribute to the development of future reproductive health professionals.
  • Research and innovation commitment to advancing infertility care through research, audit and evidence-based practice.
  • Adaptability and leadership ability to contribute to the ongoing development of a high-quality tertiary ART service.
  • Teamwork ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary tertiary healthcare environment.
  • Communication clear, respectful and professional communication with patients and colleagues.
  • This post reports to Head of Reproductive Medicine Unit, department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology The successful candidate will work collaboratively with reproductive medicine specialists, obstetricians and gynaecologists, nurses, laboratory personnel and other members of the multidisciplinary team to support couples and individuals undergoing fertility assessment and assisted reproductive treatment.

applications from suitably qualified and motivated Medical Biological Scientists
specialising in Reproductive Biology/Clinical Embryology to join its newly established multidisciplinary infertility and assisted reproductive technology
(ART) service in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. All shortlisted candidates, including the SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments.
One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an
integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.
