Requirements

  • Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as Occupational Therapist.
  • Experience: Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist.
  • One-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational therapist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
  • Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Minimum of 11-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational therapist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
  • Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Minimum of 21-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as an Occupational therapist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
  • Inherent requirement of the job: Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence.
  • Competencies (knowledge/skills): Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of PFMA, Ideal Clinic, and other relevant policies, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Analytic thinking, independent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in community Occupational Therapy services.
  • Must be proactive, innovative and an independent team leader.
  • Experience in setting up treatment programs within a PHC setting.
  • Knowledge of mental health legislations and related legal and ethical practices.
  • Knowledge of public service acts and regulations.

Duties

  • Assessment and treatment of community mental health patients.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of Occupational Therapy programs in the community.
  • Follow the relevant policies and SOPs within the Occupational Therapy field.
  • Administrative duties.
  • Develop objectives and action plans for own area of work.
  • Co-ordination of services in the district.
  • Contribution to the awareness, promotion of mental health, and prevention of mental illness.
