Requirements

  • Basic R425 Degree / Diploma in General Nursing and midwifery.
  • A minimum of 9 years appropriate/ recognizable nursing experience after registration as a professional nurse with SANC in General Nursing.
  • Current registration with SANC (2026).
  • At least 5 years of the period referred to above must be appropriate/recognizable experience in Neonatal after obtaining the 1 year post basic qualification in Neonatal / Critical care nursing science.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Training And Competencies: Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to make independent decisions, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  • An understanding of the challenges facing the public health sector.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven management ability, sound communication, negotiation, planning, organizing, leadership, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge on nursing care processes and procedures, nursing statutes and other relevant legal framework.

Duties

  • Provide quality of nursing care as directed by the professional scope of practice and standards as determined by the institution, District Office and Provincial Office.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance programs, policies and operational plan for NICU unit to ensure compliance with ideal Hospital and norms and standards.
  • Provide a consultative service and expert opinion on neonate related matters at Ladysmith Regional Hospital with the staffing norms.
  • Exercise control over discipline, grievance and labour relations issues.
  • Maintain clinical, professional and ethical standards related to these services.
  • Comply with the guidelines, protocols and clinical audits, in the department as to optimize patient care in neonatal intensive care unit with the resources available.
  • Develop/ establish and maintain constructive working relationship with other stakeholders.
  • Display a concern for patients, promoting, advocating and facilitating proper treatment and care and ensuring that the unit adhere to the principles of Batho Pele.
  • Be actively involved in human and material resources.
  • Participate in both academic and administrative activities.
  • Ensure reduction of neonatal mortality and morbidity.
  • Take a lead in accurate data collection, verification and submission using prescribed source documents.
  • Ensure availability of resources for smooth running of the unit.
