Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: An appropriate qualification that allows for the registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Practitioner.
- Registration with the Professional Council: Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner (Independent Practice).
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to work well within a group at all levels of authority.
- An interest and commitment to service.
- Appropriate experience in the field with proficiency in basic cataract surgery.
- Clinical and surgical experience in Ophthalmology as a medical officer.
- Computer literate to facilitate patient care, research and administration.
- FC Ophth (SA) part 1A (Paper 1 &
- 2).
- Inherent requirements of the job: Commuted overtime is compulsory.

salary position, as personal. As such they are entitled to receive pay
progression. Appointment as a Registrar will be for a maximum contract period of 5 years. Employees in service who opt to continue with their pension benefits
as Registrar, will be required to resign after completion of their registrarship should they not be successful for advertised Specialist positions. Should
registration with the HEI as a student be discontinued for any reason the appointment of Registrar also discontinues. Applicants must indicate whether
they have bursary obligations. Groote Schuur Hospital has adopted the department’s ecosystem framing of its training platform. Accordingly, all
registrar appointments may be called upon to work across this platform and may include rotations at Metro West and Rural East hospitals. This includes
Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, New Somerset Hospital,
Mitchells Plein District Hospital, Victoria Hospital and George Provincial
Hospital. Please ensure that you attach an updated CV. The Department of
