The Department of Basic Education has officially opened the teacher assistance applications, phase IV of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative (PYEI). A great opportunity for the unemployed youth of South Africa to be placed as Education Assistants and General School Assistants.
The PYEI is intended to give the youth an opportunity to get work experience and skills through informal and formal training provided by provinces and the Department of Basic Education.
Phase IV comes after the country’s youth have reaped the benefits of more than 850 000 job opportunities coupled with training that was offered throughout the initiative.
Phase IV’s main aim is to offer job opportunities to 255 100 young teacher assistants across the nine provinces in ± 20 000 Public Ordinary Schools and Schools for Learners with Special Education Needs (LSEN).
The 2022 teacher assistance applications are open from the 26th of September to the 16th of October. This gives all the interested youth 3 weeks to submit their applications.
The successful new young cohorts will commence work early 2023.
This opportunity is suitable for youth aged 18 – 34 years and residing within a radius of 5 km from a school.
How to Apply For Teacher Assistance
Applicants should register on www.sayouth.mobi and apply for the Education Assistant and General School Assistant job opportunities.
Fill in the application form with the required information and select the school nearest to you.
There is no cost to the youth visiting the SAYouth.mobi website as the size is zero-rated. Application is strictly online on the sayouth.mobi site; no application will be accepted at any school.
If your application is successful and you are shortlisted, the school will contact you inviting you to an interview.
Interviews will be conducted during November/December 2022.
The opportunities are to be distributed as follows among provinces:
- Eastern Cape – 40 100
- Free State – 15 500
- Gauteng – 40 000
- KwaZulu-Natal – 58 500
- Limpopo – 35 000
- Mpumalanga – 22 000
- Northern Cape – 7 000
- North West – 16 000
- Western Cape – 21 000
What to Prepare
If your application is considered and you are invited to interview, you will be required to submit the following documents:
- An updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Testimonial (former school, a local chief, church leader, etc.)
- Police clearance certificate.
- Affidavit/declaration by the applicant stating he/she has no criminal record while awaiting the police clearance.
- Certified qualifications such as Matric (where applicable NQF Level 4 qualification certificate, for Education Assistant applicants NQF Level 6 and 7 qualifications will be an added advantage).
- Certified copy of identity document/passport.
Applicants are to note that according to the new Case Law, any person working with vulnerable people (learners and disabled people) needs to be vetted. Therefore, for Phase IV, this will be a requirement for placement. More Information and requirement will be communicated when necessary.
The PYEI allows young South Africans to make a significant economic contribution to their communities. PYEI’s great achievement contributes to addressing the triple challenge of gender inequality, unemployment, and poverty.
