    Librarian Position at the Office of the Chief Justice
    The Office of the Chief Justice invites applications for the position of Librarian (Ref No: 2023/285/OCJ) at the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing effective library and information services to support the judicial process.

    Position Details:
    • Ref No: 2023/285/OCJ
    • Salary: R294 321 – R343 815 per annum, subject to signing a performance agreement.
    Qualifications and Requirements:
    • Matric certificate and a three-year National Diploma/Degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related equivalent qualification at NQF level 6 (360 credits) recognised by SAQA.
    • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in library and information systems.
    • Knowledge of library prescripts, legislation, procedures, and processes.
    • Experience in a legal/law library is advantageous.
    • Skills and Competencies: Research and analytical skills, strong communication (written and verbal) skills, computer literacy (MS Office), ability to access and utilise computer research programmes, planning and organising abilities, attention to detail, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and language proficiency.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Provide effective and efficient library and information services.
    • Manage the library and information systems.
    • Assist in selecting books for the library and judges’ chambers.
    • Classify and catalogue library material.
    • Offer reference and information services for the Supreme Court of Appeal library.
    • Monitor the library budget and contribute to budget planning.
    • Promote and market library services.
    • Perform general administration and supervisory tasks.

    Senior Court Interpreter Position at the Office of the Chief Justice
    The Office of the Chief Justice invites applications for the position of Senior Court Interpreter (Ref No: 2023/286/OCJ) at the Limpopo Division of The High Court in Polokwane. This re-advertised opportunity welcomes candidates who previously applied to reapply, providing a chance to contribute to the vital role of court interpretation within the judicial process.

    Position Details:
    • Ref No: 2023/286/OCJ
    • Salary: R294 321 – R343 815 per annum, subject to signing a performance agreement.
    Qualifications and Requirements:
    • Matric certificate and a three-year National Diploma in Legal Interpreting Science or a related equivalent qualification at NQF level 6 (360 credits) recognised by SAQA.
    • Minimum of three years of practical experience in Court Interpreting, or grade twelve and ten years of practical experience in Court Interpreting.
    • Candidates will be required to undergo Oral Language proficiency testing.
    • Skills and Competencies: Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), computer literacy (MS Office), good interpersonal relations, ability to work under pressure and solve problems, accuracy and attention to detail, customer service orientation, planning and organising skills, confidentiality, analytical thinking, listening skills, ability to work independently, meticulousness, logical thinking, and good time management.
    • Language Proficiency: English, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Sepedi. Knowledge of Shona, Isi-Zulu, Isi-Ndebele, Afrikaans, or Setswana is advantageous.
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Provide interpreting services in criminal court, civil court, labour and quasi-judicial proceedings.
    • Offer interpreting services during consultations.
    • Translate legal documents and exhibits.
    • Assist in reconstructing court records.
    • Develop terminology and coin words.
    • Control and supervise interpreters.
    • Perform line and administrative support functions to the Judiciary, Court Manager, and Supervisor.

    Registrar Position at the Office of the Chief Justice
    The Office of the Chief Justice is inviting applications for the position of Registrar (Ref No: 2023/288/OCJ) at the KwaZulu-Natal Division of The High Court in Durban. This re-advertised opportunity welcomes candidates who previously applied to reapply, providing a chance to contribute to the vital role of case flow management and support services within the judiciary.

    Position Details:
    • Ref No: 2023/288/OCJ
    • Salary: R293 847 – R1 005 801 per annum (MR3 – MR5), salary will be in accordance with Occupation Specific Dispensation determination, subject to signing a performance agreement.
    Qualifications and Requirements:
    • LLB Degree or a four-year Legal qualification.
    • A minimum of 2 years of legal experience obtained after qualification.
    • Superior Court or Litigation experience will be an added advantage.
    • MR3 – LLB Degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience in the legal profession.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Coordinate Case Flow Management support services to the Judiciary and Prosecution.
    • Manage the issuing of all processes initiating Court proceedings.
    • Manage criminal and civil trials, motions, pre-trials, mental health, petition, appeal, and review processes.
    • Attend to quasi-judicial functions, including default judgments and taxation.
    • Maintain criminal and civil record books.
    • Authenticate documents for international use.
    • Supervise and manage staff.
    • Provide practical training and assistance to the Registrars’ Clerks.
    • Ensure annotation of relevant publications, codes, acts, and rules.
    • Attend to and execute requests from the Judiciary in connection with cases and case-related matters.
    • Exercise control over the safekeeping of case records and the record room.
    • Deal with files in terms of relevant codes and legislation.

    Qualifications and Requirements:
