Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
- Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
- Experience: Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner in respect of SA qualified employees.
- A minimum of I l years relevant experience after registration as a Medical Practitioner with a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.
- Grade 1: None after registration as Medical Practitioner with the HPCSA in respect of SA qualified employees.
- 1-year relevant experience after registration as Medical Practitioner with a recognized foreign Health Professional Council in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years appropriate experience as a Medical Practitioner after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner in respect of SA qualified employees.
- A minimum of 6 years relevant experience after registration as Medical Practitioner with a recognized foreign Health Council in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service as required in South Africa.
- Inherent requirement of the job: Valid (Code B/EB) drivers’ licence.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS/PALS) certification.
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Demonstrated clinical experience and competence in Emergency Medicine.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and engage professionally with staff at all organisational levels.
- Commitment to teaching, training, and the development of an academic career in Emergency Medicine.
- Sound clinical decision-making and leadership skills in a high-acuity environment.
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
Duties
- Provide comprehensive clinical management of all patients presenting to the Emergency Centre, including neonates, children, adolescents, and adults.
- Assess, stabilise, resuscitate, and manage critically ill and injured patients.
- Supervise, support, and teach undergraduate students, interns, community service officers, and healthcare professionals working within the Emergency

Provide clinical support in other hospital departments when required to meet service delivery needs.
