Requirements
- Minimum educational qualification: Two years of in-service training on ophthalmic specialised equipment after obtaining Level 1 Ophthalmic Assistant course.
- Experience: Grade 1: None after obtaining the appropriate qualification or prescribed in-service training.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience after obtaining the appropriate qualification or prescribed in-service training.
- Competencies (knowledge/skills): Ability to interact with patients, family members and members of the public.
- Ability to keep abreast of new developments in technology, sterilisation and disinfection methods.
- Ability to accurately record data and to provide accurate maintenance records.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical and other staff.
- Ability to work independently and with good time management.
- Ability to perform routine tasks and acquire technical skills.
- Ability to adhere to required health and safety standards.
- Must be able to plan well and understand the need to report to an ophthalmologist.
Duties
- Perform ophthalmic special investigations.
- Responsible for maintenance of equipment and consulting room hygiene.
- Assist in ophthalmic counselling and the distribution of information material.
- Keep accurate and retrievable patient records.
- Responsible for consulting room provisioning.
- Participate in departmental audit programmes.
