Requirements

  • Matric plus Appropriate Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree (NQF 7) as recognized by SAQA that allows registration with South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a Pharmacist.
  • Current registration with South Africa Pharmacy Council (SAPC) (2026/2027).
  • Designation as an active and practicing pharmacist on the SAPC register.
  • Minimum 5 years as a pharmacist post community service with at least three years supervisory experience (preferably within the public health sector).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Computer Literacy.
  • Knowledge And Skills: Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and National Department of Health (NDoH) strategies.
  • Experience in pharmacovigilance, antimicrobial stewardship, and medicine supply management will be an added advantage.
  • Management and Supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to provision of Pharmaceutical Services.
  • Experience in pharmacovigilance, antimicrobial stewardship, medicine supply management will be an added advantage.
  • Project and Communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and Negotiation skills.

Duties

  • Enhance pharmacovigilance activities across the province to improve patient safety.
  • Implement Antimicrobial Stewardship Programmes (AMS).
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship in line with NDoH strategies.
  • Ensure effective cold chain management for medicines and vaccines and support the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) across all levels of care.
  • Improve access and availability of pharmaceutical services with districts through implementation of differentiated models of care and the down referral policy.
  • Policy Development and Implementation in line with national and provincial frameworks.
  • Compile reports, support audits and compliance monitoring, participate in relevant forums, and provide technical support to health facilities.

Enrolment for the course should be made on the NSG’s website at https://www.thensg.gov.za/trainingcourse/smspre-entry-programme.
  • All shortlisted candidates, including the SMS, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other will be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment.

  • Candidates who possess foreign qualifications and/or short courses certificates must take it upon themselves to have their qualifications evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
