    Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Director

    The role of Assistant Director within the Entity Oversight and Interface Directorate involves overseeing a range of activities that ensure governance compliance within various government entities. Your responsibilities will focus on reporting, monitoring, and improving governance frameworks. Here’s a breakdown of the duties:

    1. Governance and Compliance Reporting:
      • You will be responsible for gathering compliance and non-compliance data and generating monthly, quarterly, and annual governance compliance reports for the GDED entities.
      • Conduct preliminary assessments of submissions from entities and compile an analysis of compliance to legislative and regulatory requirements, including the PFMA, Treasury Regulations, and the King Code.
      • Identify areas of non-compliance within entities and recommend remedial action.
    2. Shareholder Compact Development:
      • Facilitate the development and review of draft annual shareholder compacts.
      • Incorporate inputs from internal stakeholders, including the GDED Legal Advisory Service and Company Secretaries.
      • Ensure that the shareholder compact is approved by both GDED management and the Executive Authority.
    3. Board Member Appointments:
      • Manage the logistical arrangements for appointing board members of GDED entities.
      • Oversee the handling of applications and facilitate communication with Company Secretaries on board appointments.
      • Support the inauguration process of newly appointed boards.
    4. Audit Monitoring and Action Plans:
      • Consolidate GDED entities’ external audit findings and conduct preliminary assessments of audit trackers and action plans.
      • Draft reports to assess the implementation of audit findings and highlight areas where progress is slow, recommending corrective measures.
      • Ensure that audit findings are fully implemented by the entities and monitor progress through regular follow-ups.
    5. Support and Coordination:
      • Provide support to service providers and Company Secretaries in conducting board assessments.
      • Coordinate submissions and ensure compliance with external requirements.
      • Monitor and ensure the implementation of audit action plans across the board.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    To be eligible for the Assistant Director position at the Department of Economic Development, applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience:

    • National Diploma/Degree in Corporate Governance, Business Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Management (NQF Level 6/7 as recognized by SAQA).
    • 3-5 years of experience in an Entity Oversight or Governance environment.
    • A valid driver’s license is essential for this role.
