Responsibilities
The Cataloguer at UP will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of library resources. Key responsibilities include:
- Acquisition and Subscription Management:
- Managing serials (print and electronic) using the OCLC WorldShare Integrated Library Services Platform.
- Cataloguing:
- Performing original and copy cataloguing for serials and other collections in adherence to international standards such as RDA, AACR2, MARC21, ISSN, and Dublin Core.
- Classification and Subject Analysis:
- Assigning subject headings and classifying materials for easy discoverability.
- Maintenance:
- Updating and correcting errors in serial holdings on the OCLC WorldShare database.
- Vendor Liaison:
- Communicating with publishers and vendors to resolve subscription-related issues.
- Professional Guidance:
- Advising information specialists and stakeholders on matters related to serials.
- Strategic Participation:
- Contributing to strategic projects within the library.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet one of the following educational and professional criteria:
Option 1:
- A four-year library degree such as:
- Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.Bibl.)
- Bachelor of Information Science (BIS) PLUS a Postgraduate Diploma in Library Information Science/Studies or Honors (B. Inf (Hons)).
- At least three years of experience in cataloguing serials in an academic environment.
- Proficiency in:
- International cataloguing standards (RDA, AACR2, DDC, MARC21, Dublin Core).
- Use of OCLC WorldCat or WorldShare.
Option 2:
- A three-year library degree (e.g., BIS).
- At least four years of experience in cataloguing serials in an academic setting.
- Proficiency in the same cataloguing standards and systems listed above.
