    Deputy Director of Business Development – Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment

    The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment is seeking a Deputy Director of Business Development to contribute to its strategic initiatives. This role, located in either Cape Town or Pretoria, involves fostering Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) within the EP Branch. The successful candidate will hold a National Diploma/Degree (NQF6) in Business Administration or a relevant field, accompanied by at least three years of experience in Business Development, with a minimum of three years at a junior managerial level (Assistant Director Level or equivalent). The Deputy Director will play a pivotal role in driving the development and execution of frameworks and plans for SMMEs in the EP Branch.

    • The successful candidate will possess a range of skills, including strategic planning, business writing, and interpersonal communication.
    • Strong project management, research methodologies, risk management, and business administration skills are essential.
    • The role requires excellent oral and written communication abilities for effective stakeholder engagement.
    Responsibilities:
    • Developing, reviewing, and supporting the implementation of enabling frameworks and plans for SMMEs.
    • Crafting a comprehensive SMME Development Framework for the branch.
    • Conducting stakeholder consultations to gather input and insights from both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Organising roadshows and workshops to facilitate the multi-year implementation plan for SMME projects.
    • Coordinating the procurement process and project management for a contracted service provider responsible for implementing SMME projects.
    • Facilitating stakeholder engagements to enhance and support SMME development for EP contractors.
    • Establishing and maintaining an SMME database while managing the DSBD/DFFE implementation plan.
    • Developing and executing a contractor development exit strategy and corresponding workshops.

    The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment is seeking a skilled Control Engineering Technician Grade A to join their team. This position, based in Cape Town’s Waterfront, requires a qualified candidate with a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or an equivalent relevant qualification. The successful applicant should possess a minimum of 6 years of post-qualification technical experience and must be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technician.

    • National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
    • Minimum of 6 years post-qualification technical experience.
    • Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technician.

    • Understanding of South Africa Ocean research efforts and technical support requirements for scientific research.

    • Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and operate Communication and IT systems.
    • Ensure usability and performance of IT networks.
    • Procure Communication, IT, Recreational, Audio-visual, and Appliance equipment for SANAP bases.
    • Prepare and participate in annual relief voyages, overseeing stakeholder engagement, permits, and HR recruitment for overwintering personnel.
    • Conduct research and development, staying updated on new technologies and procedures.
    • Collaborate with relevant bodies/councils on engineering-related matters.

    The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment is seeking an Assistant Director for Biodiversity Sector and Bilateral Coordination based in Pretoria. This role requires a candidate with a National Diploma (NQF6) in Public Administration or an equivalent relevant qualification, along with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related field. The successful candidate should have knowledge of project planning methodologies, biodiversity management, conservation management, public administration, and project management.

    The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and Environment is recruiting for the position of Environmental Officer (Production Grade A) for Climate Change Mitigation Sector Plan Implementation. This role, with two available positions, is based in Pretoria. The ideal candidate should have a National Diploma (NQF 6) in Environmental Management or Natural Sciences or an equivalent qualification within the related field. A minimum of one year of experience in the related field is required.

    Key Requirements:
    • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Environmental Management / Natural Sciences or equivalent qualification.
    • Minimum of one year experience in the related field.
    • Knowledge of environmental and development issues, particularly in areas such as energy, transportation, waste, industry, agriculture, forestry, and other land use.
    • Familiarity with industrial/chemical production processes and cleaner production best practices.
    • Understanding of climate change mitigation issues, including legal and policy frameworks, economics, technical requirements of low carbon development, carbon finance, etc.
    • Knowledge of South Africa’s greenhouse gas emission profile and climate change mitigation.
    • Strong research, data collection, analysis, and interpretation skills.
    • Skills in coordination, organization, planning, communication (written and spoken), program and project management, decision-making, and report writing.
    • Computer literacy, problem-solving, and conflict management skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work long hours.

    • Administer GHG (Greenhouse Gas) pollution prevention plans and annual progress reports.
    • Manage GHG carbon budget allocations administration.
    • Update GHG pollution prevention plans, annual progress reports, and carbon the budget processing and reporting mechanism.
    • Coordinate and monitor the implementation of provincial and local government mitigation response implementation plans, tools, and products for climate change responses.
    • Provide technical support to line departments/branches for mainstreaming climate change mitigation responses.
    • Offer climate change mitigation technical input for EIA project authorizations.
    • Conduct capacity building, training, and awareness activities on climate change mitigation.
