The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) is seeking qualified candidates for two contract-based positions as Financial Aid Officers within its Finance Department. This opportunity, available only to internal applicants, offers two-year contracts and is a pivotal role in supporting students’ financial aid needs under the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
One position will be based at the District Six Campus in Cape Town, and the other at the Bellville Campus. The closing date for applications is 17 November 2024.
Position Overview
The Financial Aid Officer will play an essential role in administering NSFAS funding as well as pre-funded programs and NSFAS Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs). The successful candidates will ensure funds are managed in strict accordance with NSFAS guidelines, funders’ criteria, and CPUT’s internal policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Financial Aid Officer include:
- Administration of Funding: Managing NSFAS and other bursaries, including processing financial aid applications and ensuring students receive financial clearance to register.
- Data Management: Extracting and compiling data related to funding, processing assessments, and reconciling accounts.
- Student Support: Assisting students with queries about financial aid, processing their allowances, and maintaining accurate records for auditing purposes.
- General Administration: Performing general administrative tasks, maintaining a comprehensive filing system, and assisting senior financial aid officers as required.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaising with donors, students, staff, and other stakeholders to facilitate smooth financial aid processes.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Academic Requirement: Matric or Senior Certificate, or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: A minimum of two years in administrative roles related to financial aid.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with ITS (Integrated Tertiary Software) and a sound understanding of financial aid policies and procedures.
Recommended Qualification: A National Diploma in Business Studies or an equivalent three-year qualification would be an advantage.

- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well within a team and provide client-focused service to students and stakeholders.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in handling records and processing applications.
- Time Management: Ability to work efficiently under pressure, especially during peak times, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong computer literacy, including experience with ITS, Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Additional Information
This position requires flexibility to work overtime when needed, particularly during peak financial aid periods.
