Requirements
- An appropriate degree in Business Administration and/or Legal Studies at NQF level 7 recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), plus the pre-entry certificate for SMS (Nyukela).
- Plus 5 years of experience at the middle/senior managerial level in Legal or Corporate Governance.
- Knowledge of: Legislative and policy prescripts relevant to the Department and its SOE’s.
- Corporate governance as it applies to the public and private sector, Company law, PFMA, Project Management, Strategic Planning, Risk Management and strong legal background.
- Skills: Communication, Financial Management, Problem-solving and Analytical skills.
- Honesty and integrity; change management, strategic capability and leadership.
- Service delivery innovation, people management and empowerment.
- Thinking Demand: Information evaluation; decision-making, creativity, Tact, work individuality and in a group.
Duties
- Undertake the development of standardised SOC governance review and reporting instruments.
- Lead or partake in SOC governance assurance projects to assess compliance and enable DEE management structures to facilitate corrective action where required.
- Provide technical advisory services to executive management and the shareholder on the appointment and dismissal of SOC Board Members.
- Develop coordinate the implementation of the DEE’s legal assurance policy regime and standardised legal instrument assurance framework for the SOC Group.
- Align existing and/or develop legal instruments for the governance of SOC’s in the group.
- Draft legal opinions on the shareholder interface process with SOC Boards.
- Manage the Directorate.

- All shortlisted candidates for SMS posts will be subjected to a technical exercise and interview. Following the technical exercise and interview, a maximum of three (3) SMS candidates will undergo psychometric assessments to assess cognitive capabilities, behavioural preferences, emotional intelligence, and integrity. No SMS post appointment shall be implemented without the relevant candidate producing the pre-entry certificate for SMS (Nyukela) obtainable from www.thensg.gov.za . Suitable candidates will be subjected to a personnel suitability check (criminal record, citizenship, credit record checks, qualification verification and employment verification).
