    Western Cape Government Graduate Internship Programme 2025 / 2026

    Through its Graduate Internship Program 2025/2026, the Western Cape Government (WCG) is providing unemployed South African graduates with an exciting opportunity to obtain real-world work experience. The goal of this program is to increase the employability of young professionals by providing them with exposure to different government offices and capabilities.


    About the Graduate Internship Programme

    The Graduate Internship Programme 2025/2026 is part of the Youth Development Programme, providing successful applicants with hands-on training in different government departments. The internship duration ranges from 3 to 24 months, depending on the placement. Interns will work closely with professionals in their chosen fields, gaining essential workplace skills and experience.

    Eligibility Criteria

    The programme is open to unemployed graduates who meet the following criteria:

    • Must be a South African citizen residing in the Western Cape.
    • Must be between the ages of 20 and 35.
    • Must hold a completed qualification in one of the following categories:
      • Certificate (NQF 5)
      • Diploma (NQF 6)
      • Degree (NQF 7)
      • Postgraduate Qualification (NQF 8 or higher)
    • Preference will be given to students from Western Cape institutions.
    • Candidates with financial constraints and limited career support networks are encouraged to apply.

    Key Performance Areas

    Interns will be placed in various Western Cape Government departments, gaining experience in different sectors. The departments participating in the programme include:

    • Agriculture
    • Police Oversight and Community Safety
    • Cultural Affairs and Sport
    • Department of the Premier
    • Economic Development and Tourism
    • Environmental Affairs & Development Planning
    • Department of Infrastructure
    • Local Government
    • Mobility Department
    • Provincial Treasury
    • Social Development

    Interns will receive on-the-job training, learning how to navigate professional environments, execute administrative tasks, and contribute to meaningful projects within the government sector.

    Skills and Competencies Required

    Candidates should demonstrate the following skills to succeed in the internship:

    • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) in at least two official Western Cape languages.
    • Basic computer literacy (MS Office proficiency).
    • Ability to operate office equipment.
    • Good planning and organisational skills.

    These competencies will enable interns to perform effectively in their assigned roles while preparing them for future employment opportunities.

    How to Apply

    The application process consists of two phases:

    Phase 1: Registration

    1. Click on “Create Account” on the Western Cape Government Careers portal.
    2. Complete the required information and attach necessary documents:
      • Curriculum Vitae (CV) (preferably in MS Word format).
      • Certified copy of Identity Document (ID).
      • Academic Qualification and Academic Results.
    3. Ensure the profile is complete and click “Submit”.
    4. A verification email will be sent to confirm the registration.

    Phase 2: Application

    1. Log in to the portal and search for the Graduate Internship Programme 2025/2026.
    2. Click “APPLY” on the advertisement.
    3. Complete the application form and submit it.
    4. A confirmation email will be sent to acknowledge receipt of the application.

    Application Deadline and Important Notes

    • Closing Date: 21 February 2025.
    • Only online applications will be accepted.
    • Late, emailed, or faxed applications will not be considered.
    • The application will be kept in the database for 12 months.
    • Final academic results will be verified before selection.
    • Personal information provided will be checked in accordance with legislation.
    • No financial assistance for relocation, travel, or subsistence costs will be provided by the Western Cape Government.

    • Local Libraries
    • Thusong Service Centres
    • E-Community Forums and E-Centres in rural towns
    • Western Cape Government Walk-in Contact Centre
    • Internet Cafés
