The 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, a pivotal milestone for South African students, concluded on December 6, 2023. With the announcement of 2023 Matric Results by the Minister of Basic Education, Mrs. Angie Motshekga, scheduled for January 18, 2024, and the release of results to candidates on January 19, 2024, students and parents alike are gearing up for this crucial moment. This comprehensive guide provides essential information on result release, re-mark/re-check procedures, and options for those needing further examination opportunities.

    2023 Matric Results

    Result Release and Access

Candidates can expect to access their results from January 19, 2024. It is important to note that due to potential technical issues, some results may not be immediately available. Students are advised to collect their statements of results from their respective schools or exam centers. Additionally, results will be accessible online from 6 am on the release date at the official website.

    Result Queries and Corrections

For any discrepancies or queries regarding the results, candidates should submit their concerns for investigation within 30 days following the result release. Furthermore, it is crucial for students to verify that their names and identity numbers are correctly reflected on their statements of results. Any necessary corrections must be reported to the Department before February 21, 2024.

Re-mark and Re-check of Exam Scripts

Students who wish to apply for a re-mark or re-check of their examination scripts can do so by registering at their school, district office, or online at www.eservices.gov.za. The closing date for these applications is February 2, 2024. The fees are R120.00 for a re-mark and R29.00 for a re-check per subject. Post these processes, candidates can apply to view their scripts at a fee of R234.00, with the application window closing 7 days after the release of re-mark or re-check results. The results from remarking will be available from March 15, 2024.

    June NSC Exams

The supplementary examination traditionally held in February/March has been phased out. Instead, a new examination session is available in May/June for candidates wishing to improve their results or complete outstanding subjects. The deadline for applications for the 2024 June NSC exams is February 8, 2024. Candidates can only register for subjects they were enrolled in during any previous November examination. Conditions for entry include valid reasons for previous absences, such as medical issues or family bereavement, and the necessity to have valid external paper marks.

Options for Candidates Not Qualifying for June NSC Examination

Candidates who do not meet the criteria for the June NSC examination have several alternatives:

    1. Re-enrollment as a Full-time Repeater: Candidates under 21 can re-enroll as full-time repeaters at a school, taking 7 subjects, including Life Orientation, and complying with all SBA requirements.
    2. Part-time Repeater at a Public Adult Education Centre: This option is available for those who wish to register as part-time repeaters.
    3. Senior Certificate (SC) Examination: Adults and out-of-school learners over 21 can register for the SC examination, a school-leaving qualification.
    4. Vocational Education and Training: Candidates can consider enrolling in one of the 50 Public Further Education and Training (FET) colleges across South Africa.

The release of the 2023 NSC examination results marks a significant step in the educational journey of South African students. With various options available for those needing to improve their results or correct discrepancies, students are encouraged to take proactive steps towards their academic and career goals. Remember, each step, whether it’s a success or a learning opportunity, is a move towards a brighter future.
