Law Researcher Key Responsibilities
As a Law Researcher, your duties will include:
- Performing all legal duties to assist judges in preparing judgments.
- Conducting thorough research and retrieving relevant material from various sources in both hard and electronic formats.
- Analyzing legal issues and discussing possible variations with colleagues or judges.
- Preparing comprehensive memorandums on research outcomes.
- Proofreading judgments, articles, speeches, and conference papers for spelling, grammar, and accuracy.
- Ensuring correctness of references and footnotes against the original text.
- Drafting speeches, legal articles, and conference papers.
- Preparing PowerPoint presentations.
- Monitoring and reporting new developments in law and jurisprudence to the judiciary.
- Performing quasi-judicial functions and any court-related work to improve court efficiency.
Requirements
To be eligible for this Law Researcher position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Educational Qualification: Matric Certificate and a Bachelor’s Degree (NQF8) in LLB or a four-year legal qualification recognized by SAQA.
- Experience: Minimum of two years of legal experience post-qualification and at least three years of legal research experience. Completed articles will be an advantage.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Strong report writing and editing skills.
- Proficient communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Problem-solving, planning, and project management abilities.
- Computer literacy (MS Word).
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
