    Rand Water, a leading water utility in South Africa, has opened applications for a Civil Engineering Assistant on a 24-month fixed-term contract. This opportunity is based at their Rietvlei site in Glenvista, Gauteng, and is aimed at qualified professionals eager to contribute to multidisciplinary asset management and exceptional customer services within the organization’s Strategy Portfolio.


    This role calls for a skilled individual capable of handling engineering challenges related to pipeline infrastructure and asset management under supervision while also taking on independent responsibilities.

    Civil Engineering Assistant Position Details

    • Location: Rietvlei, Glenvista, Gauteng
    • Type: Contract (24 Months)

    Key Responsibilities

    The Civil Engineering Assistant will work under the direction of senior engineers and take on essential tasks such as:

    • Collaborating on Multidisciplinary Projects: Assisting with complex engineering projects by supporting senior engineers in planning and execution.
    • Data Management and Reporting: Capturing and collating data for condition assessments and ensuring seamless interface between various internal stakeholders.
    • Wayleave Applications and Servitudes Management: Managing applications and liaising with stakeholders to protect Rand Water’s servitudes.
    • Cross-Functional Liaison: Coordinating with specialists such as financial analysts, quality assurance experts, and GIS professionals to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
    • Inspection and Supervision: Reviewing technical drawings, inspecting pipeline activities, and maintaining compliance with engineering standards.
    • Technical Decision-Making: Making responsible decisions on professional standards and assisting in the development of asset management databases.
    • Customer and Stakeholder Communication: Representing Rand Water in discussions with public authorities, developers, and other external stakeholders, and responding to correspondence regarding municipal or consultant applications.

    Requirements

    Educational Qualifications:

    • A National Diploma, B-Tech, BSc, or BEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.

    Experience:

    • A minimum of 5-8 years of experience in civil engineering construction or pipelines.
    • Expertise in wayleaves, servitudes, and encroachment.
    • Knowledge in the design of pipelines and civil structures is preferred.

    • Pipeline protection, deviation, and blasting.
    • Site supervision and managing consultants.
    • Communication with local authorities, developers, and stakeholders.
    • Approval processes for engineering specifications and drawings.

    • Exceptional communication (written and verbal).
    • Strong presentation, facilitation, and negotiation abilities.
    • Proficiency in conflict resolution, report writing, and problem-solving.
    • Technical knowledge in inspection and site supervision.
