    Clinical Nurse Practitioner Job Overview

    Minimum Requirements

    To apply for the Clinical Nurse Practitioner position, you must meet the following qualifications:

    1. Basic Nursing Qualification:
      A Diploma or Degree in Nursing (R425) or an equivalent qualification that allows you to register with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse and Midwife.
    2. Post-Basic Qualification:
      A post-basic nursing qualification (Diploma in Clinical Nursing Science: Health Assessment: Treatment and Care, R48), accredited by SANC, with a duration of at least one year.
    3. Experience Requirements:
      • Grade 1: A minimum of 4 years of appropriate experience in nursing after registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse in General Nursing.
      • Grade 2: A minimum of 14 years of appropriate experience, with at least 10 years in the specialty of Clinical Nursing Science after obtaining the post-basic qualification.
    4. Additional Skills and Competencies:
      • BANC & PACK training or experience
      • Problem-solving, report writing, and liaison skills
      • Basic computer skills, particularly in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
    5. Driver’s License:
      A valid Code B/EB driver’s license and the willingness to travel and work in different facilities within the sub-district. This includes being prepared to work in mobile clinics within the community, under the Community-Oriented Primary Care (COPC) concept.

    Job Responsibilities

    As a Clinical Nurse Practitioner, your primary responsibilities will include:

    • Management of Burden of Disease: Implement and manage comprehensive health programs that address the burden of disease within the community.
    • Health Promotion and Prevention: Plan and conduct health promotion activities in both healthcare facilities and the surrounding communities.
    • Community Linkage: Establish strong connections with community structures and Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) to enhance service delivery.
    • Human Resources and Financial Management: Assist with the management of staff, financial resources, and equipment.
    • Report Writing: Collect health data, compile reports, and submit them in a timely manner.
    • Support Services Management: Oversee the strategy, infrastructure, equipment, and health support required for the facility.

    2. Competency Test:
      Candidates may be required to undergo a competency test as part of the recruitment process.
    3. Special Conditions:
      If you are not in possession of the stipulated qualifications, you may still apply. However, you will be appointed in the general stream, and you must obtain the necessary qualifications within a specified timeframe. You may also apply if you have applied for registration with the SANC but have not yet received confirmation. In this case, you must provide proof of payment for your registration fees and proof of your application submission before the interview.
    4. Security and Background Checks:
      Once you are shortlisted, you will undergo additional checks, which may include:
      • Security clearance
      • Qualification verification
      • Criminal record check
      • Previous employment verification

    Shortlisted candidates are required to attend interviews at the specified time and venue as determined by the Department. Failure to submit all necessary documents may result in your disqualification from the process.
