    About the Community Development Officer Role

    As a Community Development Officer, you will play a vital role in improving the livelihoods of agricultural workers and their families. This is achieved through holistic development programs aimed at fostering better agricultural relations, coordination, and support in rural areas. The selected candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to facilitate outreach programs, training sessions, and other community development initiatives that uplift the broader community.

    Community Development Officer Job Purpose

    The primary goal of the position is to assist in the development of agricultural workers and their families, with a particular focus on their role within the rural community. The successful candidate will also coordinate agricultural relations and implement effective development projects within the broader rural context.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for this exciting opportunity, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

    • A National Diploma/B-Degree or higher in a relevant field.
    • At least two years of relevant experience in community development or rural development, particularly in agri worker environments.

    Additionally, applicants should have:

    • Knowledge of community development and rural development.
    • Experience with record management systems.
    • A valid Code B (or higher) driving license (or, in the case of applicants with disabilities, the ability to access reasonable transport).

    Candidates with experience in project management, training, and capacity-building within rural community settings are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of financial management policies, compliance procedures, and administrative reporting will be highly advantageous.

    Key Performance Areas

    As the Community Development Officer, your key responsibilities will include:

    • Project Management: Plan, execute, and manage rural development projects from start to finish, ensuring that project objectives are met on time and within budget.
    • Community Outreach: Participate in and facilitate community outreach and awareness sessions, focusing on the needs and challenges of agricultural workers.
    • Training and Capacity Building: Coordinate and implement training programs that empower agricultural workers and their families to improve their skills and livelihoods.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with various rural community stakeholders to build strong relationships and foster a supportive environment for development initiatives.
    • Financial Management and Compliance: Ensure compliance with financial management policies and prescripts, maintaining a high level of accountability.
    • Administration and Report Writing: Maintain accurate records and provide regular reports on project progress, financials, and outcomes.

    Competencies

    To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate should possess:

    • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) for engaging with community members, colleagues, and stakeholders.
    • Computer literacy in MS Office packages and the ability to conduct internet research.
    • Excellent organisational and leadership abilities, with the capacity to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Knowledge of rural development policies, agricultural legislation, and the specific challenges facing agri workers in rural areas.

    Remuneration and Benefits

    The successful candidate will receive an annual salary of R 376,413 at Salary Level 8, along with various service benefits for qualifying employees. These benefits include medical assistance, housing support, and pension-fund contributions, all provided in accordance with applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
