    About the Department of Agriculture – Western Cape

    Open Vacancies in the Western Cape Department of Agriculture

    1. District Manager: Landcare (Moorreesburg)

    Salary: R896,436 per annum (Level 11), all-inclusive salary package
    Reference No: AGR 34/2025

    Requirements:

    • An appropriate 3-year National Diploma or B-Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
    • A minimum of 3 years of management experience.
    • At least 6 years of experience in natural resources.
    • A valid Code B (or higher) driving license.
    • Knowledge of the Land Conservation Act, agricultural land rehabilitation, disaster management, and public finance management.

    Duties:

    • Administer agricultural disaster risk reduction support services.
    • Manage farm planning and conservation of natural resources.
    • Provide expert advice to stakeholders and foster integrated governmental relations.
    • Oversee financial management and team leadership.

    2. Technical Manager: Technical Support Services (Elsenburg)

    Salary: R582,444 – R686,091 per annum (Level 10)
    Reference No: AGR 37/2025

    Requirements:

    • A 3-year National Diploma or B-Degree in Animal Health.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing technical staff.
    • Registered as an Animal Health Technician with the South African Veterinarian Council.
    • A valid Code B (or higher) driving license.

    Duties:

    • Oversee Animal Health Technicians and ensure effective disease surveillance.
    • Manage operational resources and equipment for animal health services.
    • Coordinate animal disease prevention strategies with stakeholders.
    • Support program reports and evaluation.

    3. Lecturer: Animal Production (Elsenburg)

    Salary: R397,116 – R467,790 per annum (Level 08)
    Reference No: AGR 38/2025

    Requirements:

    • A 4-year BSc degree in Agriculture Animal Production or a similar qualification.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Animal Production.
    • A valid Code B (or higher) driving license.

    Duties:

    • Prepare and deliver lectures, including practical, theoretical, and short courses.
    • Develop course materials and study guides.
    • Conduct assessments and manage academic responsibilities.
    • Stay updated with the latest agricultural practices and policies.

    4. Tractor Driver/Operator: Grounds Maintenance (Elsenburg)

    Salary: R193,359 – R227,766 per annum (Level 02)
    Reference No: AGR 36/2025

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12 (or equivalent qualification).
    • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
    • A valid Code C1 driving license.

    Duties:

    • Operate tractors and various implements for agricultural activities.
    • Maintain garden areas, clean ditches, and ensure safe vehicle operations.
    • Perform vehicle and equipment maintenance, including routine checks and firefighting activities.
