Emergency Care Officer Position Details

Key Responsibilities
- Emergency Care Delivery:
- Provide roadside-to-bedside definitive emergency care within defined time frames.
- Ensure all care adheres to protocols for the respective registration category (BAA/AEA).
- Communication:
- Utilize communication tools effectively to ensure seamless patient care coordination.
- Maintain clear communication with colleagues, patients, public services, and the broader community.
- Administrative Duties:
- Accurately complete both manual and electronic patient care reports.
- Manage trip authority log sheets to maintain compliance and efficiency.
- Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance:
- Ensure emergency vehicles and equipment are maintained to the highest standard.
- Support and Wellbeing:
- Collaborate with supervisors and contribute to the collective wellbeing of the EMS team.
Requirements
Qualifications and Registration
- Grade 1:
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA).
- Successful completion of a Basic Life Support (BLS) course.
- Grade 3:
- Registration with the HPCSA as an Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA).
- Successful completion of an Intermediate Life Support (ILS) course.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient knowledge of emergency care protocols.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy.
Physical and Licensing Requirements
- Valid C1 driver’s license.
- Valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
- Physically and mentally fit.
Remuneration
- Grade 1: R177,714 – R202,193 per annum
- Grade 3: R206,619 – R271,584 per annum
In addition to the annual salary, the package includes service benefits such as a 13th cheque, employer contributions to pension funds, and housing and medical aid allowances.
