    • Salary: R276,454.32 – R358,839.60 per annum
    • Working Hours: 40 hours per week

    Expenditure Administrator Job Description

    The Expenditure Administrator will support the Human Settlements Department at eThekwini Municipality, particularly within the Finance branch. The position is graded as T09 and reports directly to the department’s Accountant. The main purpose of the role is to aid in financial, accounting, and budgeting services crucial to the municipality’s housing department.

    Responsibilities

    This role requires precision in handling financial records, payments, and income and expenditure scheduling. Below is a detailed look at the primary responsibilities:

    1. Preparation of Income and Expenditure Schedules:
      • Develop schedules for annual operating budgets that will assist in accurate financial planning.
    2. Audit Preparation:
      • Prepare detailed working papers to ensure accuracy in annual financial statements.
    3. Rental Income Scrutiny:
      • Ensure that rental income is correctly accounted for, reducing errors and maintaining accuracy.
    4. Supplier Payments:
      • Verify and process payments to suppliers, ensuring compliance with municipal guidelines.
    5. Service Orders and Voucher Logging:
      • Verify and check service orders to ensure all are valid and processed efficiently.
    6. Accounting Entries Processing:
      • Process necessary accounting entries for smooth financial operations.
    7. Plant and Asset Register Reconciliation:
      • Reconcile plant and asset registers to keep track of municipal assets.
    8. Sundry Debtors and Creditors Reconciliation:
      • Ensure all sundry debtors and creditors accounts are accurate, avoiding discrepancies.
    9. Query Handling:
      • Address internal and external queries efficiently to maintain effective communication with stakeholders.

    Essential Requirements

    To be considered, candidates must meet these minimum requirements:

    • Educational Qualifications:
      • Grade 12 with a focus on Mathematics Core or Accounting.
      • A relevant certificate in the financial field.
    • Work Experience:
      • A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, financial management, or related fields.
    • Skills and Abilities:
      • Proficient in computer applications relevant to financial operations.
      • Excellent problem-solving skills and planning abilities.
    • Licensing:
      • A valid motor vehicle driver’s license.

    Preferred Requirements

    Candidates with the following additional qualifications and experience will be preferred:

    • Tertiary Education:
      • NQF Level 6 qualification in Accounting with Financial Accounting as a major.
    • Experience:
      • 4 years of experience in a similar role.
