    • Department: Visitor Infrastructure and Facilities Management (IFM)
    • Salary: R13,982.38 per month

    Bus Driver Job Description

    As a Bus Driver at Robben Island Museum, you will play a crucial role in transporting visitors and residents across the island. You will be responsible for ensuring their safety, comfort, and timely arrival at different points on the island, including the historic prison and various residential areas. This job requires flexibility, including the ability to stay overnight on the island and work shifts when needed.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    This position involves a range of important duties to ensure smooth and safe transportation of passengers around Robben Island. Here’s what you can expect:

    1. Transporting Passengers: Following a pre-determined route, you will transport visitors and residents across the island according to a strict schedule, ensuring that everyone reaches their destination comfortably and on time.
    2. Passenger Comfort and Safety:
      • Regulate heating and ventilation on the bus to ensure passenger comfort.
      • Carefully assist elderly and disabled passengers, ensuring everyone is securely seated.
      • Utilize and inspect wheel ramps for passengers with mobility needs.
    3. Driving Compliance:
      • Operate the bus safely and adhere to all National Roads Traffic Acts and regulations.
      • Conduct daily vehicle inspections to ensure all safety features and mechanical components are functioning.
      • Adhere to maintenance schedules and report any delays or accidents immediately.
    4. Record-Keeping:
      • Fill out inspection forms daily and maintain an operational logbook.
      • Report vehicle issues to your supervisor or the unit manager and provide detailed reports on any operational challenges encountered.
    5. Communication:
      • Keep passengers informed about potential delays.
      • Coordinate with the transport unit to ensure the bus is prepared for each run with fuel, water, oil, and other essentials.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be eligible for this bus driver role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    • Education: Minimum of Grade 10-12.
    • Experience: At least 5 years of verifiable driving experience, including experience with light and heavy vehicles.
    • Licensing: Valid EC1 or EC driver’s license and a Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
    • Skills:
      • In-depth knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
      • A clean driving record with no instances of drunken driving.

    Additional Requirement:
    Candidates must be able to stay overnight on Robben Island if required due to shift schedules.
