- 4-year qualification in GISc (NQF Level 7) as recognized by SAQA.
- Three (3) years post-qualification GISc professional experience.
- Valid compulsory registration with the South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors (PLATO) as a GISc Professional.

Duties
- Plan, develop, coordinate, and execute GISc projects and activities aligned with the department’s strategic objectives.
- Perform advanced spatial analysis, spatial modelling, and geo-statistical analysis to identify patterns, trends, and support decision-making.
- Design, develop, and maintain geospatial databases, geodatabases, and digital libraries, including metadata management and ensuring data quality.
- Facilitate data collection, capture, integration, and conversion from various sources and formats.
- Produce maps, visualizations, and reports including custom mapping, web-based GIS services, and data products for stakeholders.
- Develop and implement GIS standards, policies, interoperability, and best practices.
- Provide GIS support and training to endusers, including developing training manuals and promoting knowledge sharing.
- Research and innovate develop new methods/technologies for spatial problems, evaluate new GIS tools, and conduct cost-benefit analyses.
- Ensure compliance with legal, operational, and data governance requirements (e.g., spatial data standards, protection of information).
- Project management including stakeholder management, documentation of processes, and supporting audits or system requirements.
- Collaborate across teams to integrate GIS into broader systems.
- Common focus areas from surveys of the South African GISc community: Data analysis/interpretation, data acquisition, data management, and visualization/mapping.
