    HR Data Analyst Job Overview

    As the HR Data Analyst, you will be responsible for leveraging your skills in data analysis, business processes, and project management to drive innovative and cost-effective HR solutions. Your work will contribute to creating a seamless experience for HR staff and administrators, ensuring that SMU remains a leader in educational excellence and a great place to work.

    Key Job Responsibilities

    In this critical HR-focused data analytics role, the successful candidate will handle responsibilities across multiple areas of data management, business process analysis, and project support. The main duties include:

    • Data Analysis & Reporting: Develop, compile, and interpret data reports to meet HR and university needs, ensuring data integrity and adherence to institutional policies.
    • Metrics Development: Produce and maintain HR metrics, generating quarterly and annual reports that provide valuable insights into HR performance and strategic planning.
    • System Enhancements & Compliance: Work with HR Business Partners to streamline processes, enhance system functionality, and ensure compliance with legislative and institutional requirements.
    • Training & Support: Provide end-user training on new systems or enhancements, supporting HR staff in accessing and interpreting data effectively.
    • Project Coordination: Draft project plans, allocate resources, and maintain timelines for HR and ICT projects, bridging communication and collaboration between the departments.
    • Automation & Process Optimization: Implement templates and forms that automate HR processes, making operations more efficient and accessible for all stakeholders.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a liaison with stakeholders, driving the HR department’s strategic initiatives in line with SMU’s culture of continuous improvement.

    Minimum Requirements

    Candidates applying for the HR Data Analyst position must meet the following essential requirements:

    • Educational Background: A Bachelor of Commerce in Information Systems, B.Tech in Information Technology, or a related qualification.
    • Experience: A minimum of four years in a related field. Previous experience with HR data analysis is advantageous.
    • Technical Proficiency: Strong command of SQL, Excel (including macros and pivot tables), and data visualization tools.
    • Project Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage projects of medium scale, with a track record of completing them on time and within budget.
    • Tech-Savvy & Analytical Skills: Familiarity with relational databases, process automation technologies, and analytical tools is essential.

    • Strong Planning and Organizing Abilities: Capacity to structure tasks effectively and manage time well.
    • High-Level Communication: Proficiency in both oral and written communication, essential for report writing, data presentation, and training.
