About the Company
The Central Analytical Facilities (CAF) is a key component of Stellenbosch University (SU), tasked with the optimal, cost-effective, and sustainable utilization of expensive multi-user research equipment. This facility supports both the university’s research community and the broader South African research and development sector.
CAF is organized into eleven operational units, each centered around specific clusters of equipment, complemented by an administrative division that provides necessary support to these analytical units.
Junior Analyst Job Description
As a Junior Analyst at CAF, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks to support the laboratory’s operations, particularly in the preparation and analysis of samples using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LCMS). Your role will involve:
- Preparing samples for LCMS analyses and performing general laboratory tasks.
- Supporting LCMS analyses when required.
- Collecting samples from the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (Stellenbosch) using the CAF vehicle.
Job Requirements
To qualify for the Junior Analyst position, you must meet the following requirements:
- A BSc degree with biochemistry or chemistry as main subjects.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A valid driver’s license (Code B or higher).
Recommendation:
- An Honours degree in biochemistry or chemistry.
- Experience working in a laboratory.
- Experience with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) or LCMS.
Note: Shortlisted candidates will undergo written and/or computer tests to assess relevant competencies.
