    What Does the SARB Do?

    The SARB operates across multiple sectors, including:

    • Monetary Policy – Ensuring price stability and low inflation
    • Financial Stability – Identifying and mitigating systemic risks
    • Prudential Regulation – Regulating financial institutions
    • Financial Markets – Managing foreign exchange reserves
    • Financial Surveillance – Regulating cross-border transactions
    • Payments and Settlements – Managing national payment systems
    • Research and Statistics – Providing insights for economic decision-making
    • Banknotes and Coin – Issuing South Africa’s legal tender

    Key Responsibilities of a Junior Insurance Analyst

    As a Junior Insurance Analyst, you will be responsible for prudential oversight of licensed insurance companies to ensure their financial soundness and governance. The role involves a combination of on-site and off-site supervision.

    Your Key Responsibilities Include

    • Processing Notifications and Applications
      • Review and assess applications related to financial and non-financial matters
      • Make recommendations in terms of the Insurance Act 18 of 2017
    • Supervision of Insurers and Insurance Groups
      • Develop and implement supervisory plans for allocated insurers
      • Monitor both solo and group-level insurers with lower risk profiles
      • Conduct risk assessment and propose mitigation actions
    • Regulatory Framework Development
      • Assist with the development and implementation of insurance regulatory frameworks
      • Ensure compliance with IAIS principles and insurance industry standards
    • On-site Visits and Engagements
      • Participate in on-site inspections under senior analyst or manager guidance
    • Data and Records Management
      • Maintain databases and records for supervised insurers and insurance groups
    • Stakeholder Communication
      • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and provide feedback

    Qualifications and Requirements

    Minimum Education Requirement

    To qualify, candidates must hold a postgraduate qualification (NQF 8) in one of the following fields:

    • Accounting
    • Actuarial Science
    • Auditing
    • Banking
    • Finance
    • Insurance
    • Risk Management

    Experience Required

    Candidates must have at least two years of experience in any of the following sectors:

    • Insurance sector
    • Financial sector
    • Risk management environment

    Skills and Competencies Required

    To succeed in this role, candidates should have the following key skills:

    • Problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Financial and business acumen
    • Attention to detail
    • Verbal and written communication skills
    • Time management skills
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
