    The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is offering exciting opportunities for Medical Officers to join their team.     List of Medical Officer Vacancies

    1. Medical Officer Grade 1 to 3 (Staff/Occupational Health Clinic)

    • Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services
    • Location: Office of the Chief Director: Metro Health Services
    • Salary:
      • Grade 1: R949,146 per annum
      • Grade 2: R1,082,988 per annum
      • Grade 3: R1,253,415 per annum
        (A portion of the package can be structured according to individual needs)

    Job Overview:

    The role of the Medical Officer at the Staff/Occupational Health Clinic focuses on managing occupational health services within the health directorate. The Medical Officer will oversee the evaluation of occupational illnesses and injuries, ensure the health and safety of healthcare workers, and implement health risk assessments to reduce workplace hazards.

    Requirements:

    • Educational Qualification: Appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
    • Registration: Must be registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
    • Experience:
      • Grade 1: No experience required for SA-qualified employees; 1-year relevant experience for foreign-qualified employees.
      • Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner for SA-qualified employees; 6 years’ experience for foreign-qualified employees.
      • Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner for SA-qualified employees; 11 years’ experience for foreign-qualified employees.
    • Other Requirements:
      • Valid driver’s license.
      • Knowledge of health risk management, medical adjudication, and district health services.
      • Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health (DOH) is advantageous.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage Occupational Health Services: Set up and oversee occupational health services, including monitoring occupational illnesses and injuries.
    • Policy Development: Create, update, and disseminate policies aimed at improving staff safety.
    • Risk Assessments: Conduct workplace health risk assessments and manage hazard identification.
    • OHS Services: Oversee occupational health and safety (OHS) services, provide technical input, and ensure compliance with governance structures.
    • Training: Develop training programs to enhance staff understanding of occupational health and safety.

    • Location: Victoria Hospital
    • Salary:
      • Grade 1: R949,146 per annum
      • Grade 2: R1,082,988 per annum
      • Grade 3: R1,253,415 per annum
        (A portion of the package can be structured according to individual needs)

    Job Overview:

    As a Medical Officer in Internal Medicine, you will provide primary and secondary care to patients in Victoria Hospital. Your duties will span across the emergency unit, medical wards, intensive care, and outpatient departments. The position also involves teaching responsibilities and administrative duties within the department.

    Requirements:

    • Educational Qualification: Appropriate qualification allowing registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner.
    • Registration: Must be registered with the HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner.
    • Experience:
      • Grade 1: No experience required for SA-qualified employees; 1-year relevant experience for foreign-qualified employees.
      • Grade 2: Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner for SA-qualified employees; 6 years’ experience for foreign-qualified employees.
      • Grade 3: Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Medical Practitioner for SA-qualified employees; 11 years’ experience for foreign-qualified employees.
    • Other Requirements:
      • Valid driver’s license.
      • Willingness to travel throughout the district.
      • Ability to work after-hours and under a commuted overtime contract.
      • Interest in pursuing an academic career in medicine.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Patient Care: Provide comprehensive medical care in various hospital departments, including emergency, high care, and intensive care units.
    • Supervision and Teaching: Supervise interns, medical students, and elective students in the Department of Medicine.
    • Administrative Duties: Assist with departmental administration, such as managing rosters and mortality/morbidity meetings.
    • After-hours Service: Provide after-hours patient care as part of the department’s medical team.
