Are you ready to make a meaningful contribution to your country? Join SAPS Entry Police Trainees and serve your nation. Learn, protect, and uphold the law with the comprehensive programme.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) is on a mission to recruit dedicated individuals who are passionate about safeguarding their community and upholding the law.

Aspiring to become a Police Trainee within SAPS means embracing a career that goes beyond the ordinary, where you’ll be proud to protect and serve. This article will take you through the details of this exciting opportunity, including application requirements, training phases, and the path to becoming a respected member of the SAPS force.

SAPS Entry Police Trainees: Serving with Pride

Joining the ranks of SAPS as an Entry Police Trainee means joining a team of patriotic citizens committed to the safety and well-being of the nation. This call of duty invites those who are willing to dedicate themselves to a career that encompasses more than just a job – it’s a commitment to preventing crime, maintaining public order, and enforcing the law.

As an Entry Police Trainee, you’ll be part of the Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP), a comprehensive training initiative that equips you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in your role.

    Position: Police Trainee

    • Employer: South African Police Service (SAPS)
    • Closing Date: 31 August 2023
    • The Journey Ahead: Phases of Training and Development

The road to becoming a skilled and effective police officer involves three distinct phases under the BPDLP:

Induction Phase: Begin with one month at a designated police station, where you’ll be introduced to the foundations of policing. A stipend of R4500 per month will support you during this phase.

Basic Training Phase: Immerse yourself in eight months of comprehensive basic training at a designated SAPS Academy. Here, you’ll develop crucial skills and knowledge to excel in your role as a police officer, with the same stipend of R4500 per month.

Probation Phase: After completing the induction and basic training phases, you’ll transition to a 12-month Workplace Exposure Programme. Your commitment during this phase will be rewarded with a salary notch of R216,033 per annum, as well as additional service benefits.

Throughout the Basic Training Phase, SAPS ensures your well-being by providing free training gear, meals, and accommodation. You’ll also benefit from medical aid coverage for the entire 21-month duration of the Basic Police Development Learning Programme.

Requirements: Your Path to Becoming a SAPS Police Trainee

Aspiring Police Trainees must meet certain criteria to be considered for this prestigious opportunity. Applicants must:

    • Be a permanent resident of the Republic of South Africa, supported by documentary proof.
    • Hold a Grade 12 school certificate or equivalent qualification, substantiated with documentary evidence.
    • Possess a valid driver’s license for a light motor vehicle (an advantage).
    • Be proficient in English and at least one other official language.
    • Fall between the ages of eighteen (18) and under thirty-five (35), verified with documentary proof.
    • Have no previous criminal convictions and be willing to undergo fingerprinting and background checks.
    • Be free from any visible tattoo marks when wearing a uniform.
    • Commit to taking the oath of office.
    • Undergo physical and mental evaluations to ensure fitness for the role.
    • Complete training as determined by the National Commissioner.
    • Be prepared to serve anywhere in South Africa.

Selection Process: Paving the Way to Excellence

The selection process for SAPS Entry Police Trainees is thorough. Applicants will undergo fitness, psychometric, and integrity testing, along with medical evaluations and interviews. The SAPS will verify qualifications, driver’s licenses, citizenship status, and residential addresses for each applicant. A vetting process, including security screening and reference checks, will ensure a candidate’s suitability.

Applicants who were previously dismissed from government departments due to misconduct will not be considered. Additionally, the physical demands of the Basic Police Development Learning Programme may exclude those with chronic diseases, physical impairments, or health conditions that could interrupt training.

Application: Your Gateway to a Fulfilling Career

Ready to embark on this transformative journey? Secure your place as a SAPS Entry Police Trainee by submitting your application on the official application form, available free of charge from any Police Station, SAPS Recruitment office, or the SAPS Website.
