Purpose of the Job

As a SHE Occ Safety Practitioner, your role is to implement health and safety programs, facilitate risk assessments, and conduct workplace safety inspections to ensure a safe and compliant working environment. You will be responsible for identifying hazards, managing risks, and improving safety performance within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Planning and Execution

  • Develop and implement shutdown safety plans and other issue-based safety strategies.
  • Align work activities with Sasol’s SHE gameplan focus areas.
  • Participate in safety improvement initiatives and monitor compliance.

Risk Assessment and Management

  • Identify occupational safety hazards, risks, and key undesirable events.
  • Implement preventive and corrective controls to minimize risks.
  • Facilitate workplace risk assessments (baseline, continuous, and issue-based).
  • Conduct root-cause analyses for incidents and recommend corrective actions.

Audits and Compliance

  • Perform focused safety audits, including logbook audits, lock-out audits, and legal compliance audits.
  • Conduct risk-based assurance audits and report findings.
  • Ensure compliance with Sasol’s safety policies, procedures, and legal standards.

Safety Training and Communication

  • Lead workplace safety inspections and coach operational teams on best safety practices.
  • Develop and present safety awareness materials for employees.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and safety stand-downs.

Incident Investigation and Prevention

  • Identify incident and injury trends and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Participate in the rollout of Safety Improvement Plans and monitor progress.
  • Respond proactively to hazards in the workplace to prevent accidents.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education:
    • Grade 12 / Matric (essential)
  • Experience:
    • At least 3 years of relevant SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) experience
